How to Book a Table at an Emirati Restaurant in Dubai: Walk-Ins, Weekends and Branches

If you want to book a table at an Emirati restaurant in Dubai, the booking is easy to make and easy to get slightly wrong. The meal is built around dishes shared across the table, so the size and shape of your group decides the table you need. And when the restaurant has several locations, the real decision is not the time but the place: a heritage building by the creek, a dining room inside a mall and a restaurant in a park are three different evenings out.

The takeaway up front: where a restaurant welcomes walk-ins, an ordinary weekday meal for a small group can be a walk-in; weekends and holidays are when booking is recommended. Choose the branch before the time, since it sets the setting and the parking, then put the party size, children, the occasion and any seating preference in the request.

The worked example is Al Fanar, which began as a family-run eatery and has served authentic Emirati cuisine from traditional UAE recipes since 2011. It now has 5 branches: three in Dubai, one at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi and one in Al Ain. It is a useful example because it publishes the details this guide asks you to check: its booking rule, and the setting and phone line of each branch. It also describes itself as family- and kids-friendly, with dishes made for sharing.

Walk-in or reservation: start with the restaurant's own rule

Al Fanar keeps its rule short: walk-ins are welcome, and booking is recommended on weekends and holidays. That gives a simple plan for a weekend restaurant booking in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Al Ain:

  • A weekday meal for a small group that can sit anywhere: walking in is reasonable.
  • Weekends: book. The restaurant says "weekends" without naming the days, and UAE working weeks differ: the UAE government's fact sheet lists Monday to Friday for government offices, while most private companies close only on Sundays. If you are unsure, treat Friday to Sunday as the weekend, or ask the branch which days it means.
  • Public holidays: book, since the restaurant recommends booking on holidays. The official list of UAE public holidays includes Eid Al Fitr, Eid Al Adha and National Day, and notes that Islamic holidays are set by moon sighting, so the exact Eid days may only be confirmed shortly before. Book as soon as the dates are announced.
  • Any day with a large group, young children or a celebration: book, so the branch knows how many people to seat before you arrive.

Our guide to how reservations, capacity and party size fit together explains, from the restaurant's side, why notice matters most for groups.

The real choice is the branch

Pick the branch first and the time second. As described on each branch page:

Branch Where Setting Parking Suits
Al Seef Al Seef, by Dubai Creek heritage waterfront; seafood-focused Emirati menu parking and valet an evening by the creek, or a seafood-led meal
Dubai Festival City inside Dubai Festival City Mall, ground floor fountain view; a setting that recreates the charm of old Dubai mall parking a meal around a mall visit
Al Barsha inside Al Barsha Pond Park the seafood-specialty branch; park-side family setting free parking a family outing that puts the park and the meal together
Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi inside Yas Mall, next to the Ferrari World entrance interiors inspired by 1960s Dubai ask the branch a meal around a visit to the mall
Al Ain Al Jimi area, near Souq Al Zafarana interiors inspired by the 1960s; set menus and private areas free parking family gatherings and corporate groups

Three things the table decides for you

  • Parking. If the group comes in more than one car, or with older relatives, parking can settle the choice: free parking at Al Barsha and Al Ain, parking and valet at Al Seef, and the mall's parking at Festival City.
  • Seafood or not. Al Seef's menu is seafood-focused, and Al Barsha is the seafood-specialty branch, where seafood trays for sharing come sized for two or four guests. If someone in the group does not eat fish, look at the menu on the restaurant's site before you book.
  • Groups and privacy. Of the 5 branches, Al Ain is the one that lists set menus and private areas for family gatherings and corporate groups. If you want a private space at a Dubai branch, ask before you promise the group one.

Al Fanar Al Seef is selected in the MICHELIN Guide.

Two ways to book: the form or the branch phone

At the worked example there are two routes:

  • Online: the table reservation form on the restaurant's website. Have the branch, the date and the time decided before you open it.
  • By phone: call the branch you want to sit in, for example to ask about a large family group or, in Al Ain, about set menus and private areas.

Branch phone lines, as listed on the branch pages:

  • Dubai Festival City Mall: +971 4 232 9966
  • Al Seef: +971 4 396 6669
  • Al Barsha Pond Park: +971 4 353 3733
  • Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi: +971 2 877 2272
  • Al Ain: +971 3 766 5200

This guide gives no times: check the branch page before you pick one, and confirm it when you call.

What to put in the booking request

Whichever route you use, put these five details in the request:

  1. Party size, with adults and children counted separately. Illustrative: "seven people, four adults and three children" tells the branch more than "seven".
  2. Children, and anyone who needs an easy seat. If you are bringing a pushchair, or an older relative who would rather not walk far, say so and ask what the branch can arrange.
  3. The occasion. A birthday, a family gathering, a business lunch or a visitor's first taste of Emirati food gives the branch context.
  4. A seating preference, framed as a request. A table with the fountain view at Festival City, a park-side table at Al Barsha or a quieter corner for a business lunch: write "if possible": it is a request, not a promise, until the branch confirms it.
  5. A second time and a mobile number. If your first choice is taken, a second option saves a round of calls, and a mobile number lets the branch reach you.

Confirm, and cancel early if plans change

  • Keep whatever confirmation you receive. If you booked online and nothing arrives, call the branch.
  • Plans changed? Cancel as early as you can. A table held for a group that never arrives is one another family could have had. Our guide to how booked businesses reduce no-shows shows the restaurant's side; from the guest's side, the fix is to tell the branch early, for example by calling it.

FAQ

Do I need a reservation at an Emirati restaurant in Dubai?

Not always. At Al Fanar, walk-ins are welcome and booking is recommended on weekends and holidays. For a large group, young children or a celebration, book on any day.

Which branch suits a family table booking?

The restaurant describes itself as family- and kids-friendly across its branches. Al Barsha adds a park-side family setting and free parking, and Al Ain adds set menus and private areas for family gatherings.

What can go wrong with the booking?

Mostly three things. Without a booking on a weekend or holiday, a table may not be available when you arrive, which is why booking is recommended then. A seating preference is a request and may not be met. And a time taken from a listing may not hold, so if the time matters, confirm it with the branch.

Choose the branch, then the time

For the Al Fanar Emirati restaurant, a one-page overview of this Emirati restaurant in Dubai sets out the 5 branches and how to reserve. Keep it open while you pick the branch, then book through the form or the branch phone line.
